When people can bring their full humanity to work, organizations achieve more. We build the conditions that make that possible.

The organizations that come to us want two things: a culture where people can thrive, and capacity to fulfill their mission.

Those goals are inseparable — because both depend on the same thing: every person being able to contribute as who they are. When that's possible, more gets done, more people are served well, and the mission gets the energy it deserves.

Humanity in Practice works with nonprofits, businesses, and community groups to build the conditions for both. We focus on behavior — the specific, repeatable things people do in the ordinary moments of organizational life — because behavior is what people actually experience. And because when behavior shifts, culture shifts.

We build capacity that lasts. Organizations that have worked with us report less harm and stronger trust, relationships that hold across real difference, and culture change that doesn't require constant tending — because it lives in how people work together every day.

We tailor every engagement to the goals, culture, and challenges of your organization. Let's talk about what that could look like for yours.

  • "Working with Humanity in Practice has improved my connections — in work and in life. By centering grace and earnest curiosity, I've been able to be more present in my conversations with colleagues, listening rather than just responding, and more open to the solutions we create together. My days feel more meaningful and purposeful."

  • "Introducing equity work into any organization is a daunting task. Humanity in Practice provided a framework that was approachable and realistic. Our team now uses what we learned in our everyday decision-making and in how we welcome people into our space."

  • "We brought Humanity in Practice in at a critical point in our growth, when we recognized the need for expert guidance to build systems and norms that reflect our belief that our field is for everyone. Staff consistently told us that Lucinda was wonderful to work with — that she opened up conversations, and that her approach allowed important issues and next steps to emerge naturally."

  • "A recent coaching conversation with Lucinda was incredibly helpful. Her perspective opened the door to productive, honest conversations with a colleague about how we were approaching a key hire. Lucinda’s advice helped me create the space for my colleague to recognize some of her own biases — and commit to reexamining them. That moment became one of deepened trust."

  • "Using the personal practices I learned working with our Humanity in Practice coach, I feel more confident advocating for intentional, grounded decisions — while staying genuinely open to what my colleagues bring. I feel more assured, and more connected."

  • "We were drawn to this work because of Lucinda's leadership at the forefront of a rapidly shifting movement to advance equity, collaboration, and accountability in the workplace. Her approach allowed important issues and next steps to emerge naturally — which is exactly what we needed."

Our Programs and Services

Humanizing Systems Workshop

A foundation for lasting change.

This half-day, experiential workshop introduces humanizing change and five everyday practices for driving it, available to anyone, anywhere in an organization. Meeting people where they are, across worldviews and beliefs, it builds shared language, surfaces honest questions, and creates the conditions for meaningful, systemic change.

Format: 4 hours, or two-2 hour sessions in-person or virtual. Suitable for full staff, leadership teams, or boards.

Introduction to Everyday Practice

A shared starting point — for organizations ready to begin.

This half-day experience introduces the core framework to a group of any size. It builds shared language, surfaces honest questions, and creates the common ground for deeper work. For many organizations it’s the on-ramp to the two-day workshop. For others it’s a meaningful standalone that shifts how people show up.

Format: half-day, in-person or virtual. Suitable for full staff, leadership teams, or boards.

Systems Appraisal Practice

Build the capacity to tend your own systems — routinely, from the inside.

Systems don’t stay humane on their own. We work with organizations to build appraisal into their regular practice: examining the policies, protocols, and processes that shape daily experience, identifying what’s working and what needs to change, and acting on what they find. The goal is organizational self-sufficiency — a practice that outlasts our involvement and doesn’t depend on continued outside support.

Delivered as a facilitated process with a leadership or cross-functional team. Can be integrated into the two-day workshop or offered as a standalone engagement.

Leadership Coaching and Consulting

For leaders who want to use their position as a lever for humanizing change.

Positional power is one of the highest-leverage tools available for building humane systems — and one of the most underused. We work with individual leaders and small leadership groups to develop the practices, awareness, and strategic clarity to use that power well: creating conditions for people to thrive, without mandating belief or triggering the resistance that derails most top-down efforts. We go where the work actually is — the hard dynamics, the resistant culture, the gap between stated values and daily reality.

Individual and small group coaching available. Ongoing consulting and thought partnership also offered. Particularly valuable for executive directors, senior leaders, HR leaders, and board members.

Organizational Assessment

For organizations that want a clear picture before they act.

Through in-depth interviews with as many staff members as possible — in one case, thirty — we develop a rigorous picture of how people are experiencing your organization: what’s working, where friction or harm shows up, and what conditions are already in place to build on. Themes and opportunities are presented to leadership in a structured report with prioritized recommendations for next steps.

Typical scope: 10–30 interviews. Output: thematic analysis and prioritized pathways. Best suited for organizations that need a clear picture before committing to a direction.

Ongoing Consulting

A thought partner for the long game.

Humanizing change is ongoing work, not a one-time event. We offer flexible, responsive consulting for organizations navigating complex challenges, planning next steps, or sustaining momentum after an initial engagement. Someone who knows your organization, understands the framework, and can help you think clearly when it matters — including when it’s hard.

Available as needed or on retainer. Often follows a workshop, coaching engagement, or assessment.
